Originally called Tropical Charms, the Charms Candy Company was founded by Walter Reid Jr. in 1912. During World War II, the U.S. Army began including Charms candies in combat rations (MREs – Meals Ready to Eat) as a supplemental energy form. After the war, Walter Reid III, the son of the founder, took control of the company and made it the leading producer of hard candy in the world. In the late 1960's, the first Charms Blow Pop was made … the one and only bubble gum filled lollipop! Blow Pops became the company’s best-selling product of all time. Besides the Blow Pop, Charms manufactures Charms Squares, Sweet & Sour Pops, Sour Balls and many other smaller candy projects.
