  • St. Patricks Day

Saint Patrick's Day, also known as the Feast of Saint Patrick, is a cultural and religious holiday celebrated on March 17th. Saint Patrick lived from 385–461 AD, and he is undoubtedly the most renowned patron saints of Ireland. He is known for driving the snakes out of Ireland, but that is really a myth since there were (and still are) no snakes in Ireland. (Ireland is an island in the midst of icy ocean waters - much too cold for snakes to migrate from England or anywhere else.)  But since snakes often represent evil in literature, "when Patrick drives the snakes out of Ireland,” really means that he drove the old, evil, pagan ways out of Ireland, and  brought in a new age of Christianity. • Candy Topiaries

The term topiary was originally used to describe plants that were molded into specific shapes by talented (and patient) landscapers. This practice dates back thousands of years and has been applied to a variety of mediums (flowers, balloons, etc), and like all good things, candy makes it sweeter. With the popularity of candy buffets and candy themed events, it’s no wonder that candy has become a popular décor item as well. It makes perfect sense, candy comes in a vast array of colors, shapes and sizes and appeals to just about everyone. Continue reading

  • Valentine’s Day – How it started

St. Valentine's Day, as we know it today, includes remnants of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. Have you ever wondered about who Saint Valentine was, or how he started this romantic ritual? One legend tells us that Valentine was a priest who lived in Rome during the third century. Saint Valentine continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Claudius found out about this, he had Valentine killed. Continue reading
