After being around for more than a century, Tootsie Roll Industries have created a phenomenon known as the tootsie roll, which eventually turned into the Tootsie pop. With a solid, steady record, tootsie pops have become a favorite lollipop in American history. Most American will tell you that they have had a handful (and most likely way more) of tootsie pops over the years. The one thing that most people cannot answer is the question, “How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?”
In the 1970’s, Tootsie Roll Industries released their first commercial asking the question, "How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?".” It may be 40 years later, but the answer still has not come. Even with thousands of people conducting their own experiments on exactly how many licks it takes, there is still no consensus. Many people believe it takes around 600-800 licks to get to the center. The research has gone so far as Perdue University and University of Michigan conducting their own research on the matter of how many licks it takes.
Although we can speculate, will we ever really know? Well that’s where you come in. We want to hear what your findings are and in exchange we will give you 15 pounds of assorted Tootsie Pops if you can prove it! For more information, watch the video below:
Based on personal experiments, you must figure out how many licks you think it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop. You must submit some kind of media, or proof of your findings. The contest ends on December 9, 2011 at 12 PM. Matt will choose the winner after that day and the winner will be informed via facebook or email. In order to submit your entry, you can post a video or data on our facebook wall or leave them as a comment on this blog!
