They're back! Old time classic gums Beemans, Clove and BlackJack are being made again. This only happens once every three years or so. Bulk Candy Store has them in stock now, so get them while you can. Here is  some information about them:

Beemans gum is a chewing gum invented by Ohio physician Dr. Edward E. Beeman in the late 19th century. Beeman originally marketed the gum as a digestiuon aid, since it was made of pepsin powder and chicle. It became a part of the Adams Company line in 1898, and continued on after the purchase of Adams by Warner-Lambert in 1962. Production ceased in 1978 due to lagging sales.  The gum was brought back in  1985, as part of a nostalgia campaign,  along with Clove and Black Jack chewing gums. The original wrapper had a pig logo, but an investor later replaced it with a logo featuring a picture of Dr. Beeman, which helped to increase sales. Beemans is currently produced by Cadbury Adams as a nostalgia gum along with Clove and Black Jack. Beemans gum has a minty sort of flavor that many people love.

Black Jack Gum is an anise (licoirce) flavored chewing gum. In 1869, exiled former Mexican president and general Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna (infamous for his victory over the Alamo defenders) was living in New Jersey. He brought a ton of Mexican chicle with him, in hopes of selling it to raise funds to help him return to power in his own country. He persuaded Thomas Adams, an inventor, to purchase it with the intent to use the chicle as a rubber substitute. That didn't work, but he noticed that Santa Anna liked to chew the chicle, which the ancient Mayans had done.  Adams boiled a small batch of chicle in his kitchen to create a chewing gum. He gave some to a local store to see if people would buy it; they did and he began production. Adams begain adding flavorings to his gum and in 1884, he began adding licorice flavoring and called his invention Adams' Black Jack, the first flavored gum in the U.S. It was also the first gum to be offered in sticks.

Black Jack Gum was sold well into the 1970s, when production ceased due to slow sales. Adams became part of the American Chicle Company, which was purchased by the Warner-Lambert Company in 1962, which became part of Pfizer in 2000. In 2002, Adams was purchased by the Cadbury Company.

Clove Gum  tastes like, well, cloves!  The distinctive flavor of Clove Gum has made it a popular item. Clove gum has been manufactured since 1914 by the Thomas Adams Company. Commercial production of gum dates only to the mid-1800s, so Clove Gum is one of the oldest continuously sold flavored gums on the market. It was especially popular in the Prohibition era, when people believed that they could cover up the scent of alcohol on their breath by chewing Clove Gum. Like Black Jack and Beemans, Clove gum is now produced by Cadbury Adams
